In the village you can walk along the “Pierre Poivre” footpath, and to visit the surrounding area by bike follow the “Route des Etangs”. The Dombes with its numerous ponds is a place of wild and preserved nature, where you can observe various species of birds (ducks, birds of prey, herons…) while walking to the sound of frogs. During your stay in Villars-les-Dombes, we invite you to visit the surrounding villages which are part of the Dombes region:
– Ars-sur-Formans, a place of pilgrimage with its basilica housing the Saint-Curé, Ambérieux-en-Dombes which houses a 14th century castle, and numerous paths to discover the ponds…
– Pérouges, an ancient fortified town known for its cobbled alleys, its sugar cake, and its plant maze…… and many more! Ask at the campsite or at the Villars Tourist Office.
The Dombes is in an ideal position to discover other horizons. It touches on the Saône Valley and its charming stone villages such as Trévoux, the Beaujolais region with its famous wine landscapes and cellars, the Bresse region with its agricultural heritage and its farm specialities, and finally the Bugey region, rich in history and gastronomy… All this while being located only 30 km from Lyon!
