camping in isère by the lake of paladru

Camping en Isère autour du lac de Paladru Small village on the shores of Lake Paladru surrounded by hills and cultivated fields

With its turquoise reflections, Lake Paladru, 5 km long and covering 392 hectares, is a protected natural area. This lake, which lends itself equally well to bird watching, swimming and sailing, will delight the whole family during your camping holiday in Isère with your caravan or motor home.

The lake of Paladru nestles among green hills that form a magnificent setting for this turquoise jewel. The lake owes its colour to the lacustrine chalk that covers its bottom. It was during the ice age, about 12,000 years ago, that these landscapes were shaped. Man arrived here in 2700 B.C. with one of the first human communities in Isère, followed a few centuries later by the knight-peasants of the year 1000 who also found refuge on the shores of Lake Paladru. This human presence has made Lake Paladru an important archaeological area. The brand new Archaeological Museum of Lake Paladru, inaugurated in June 2022, allows visitors to learn more about the remains uncovered by the archaeological excavations carried out over several decades around the lake.

In addition to its historical interest, Lake Paladru is also a site of great natural wealth. There are no less than 7 protected areas on its shores. Birdwatchers will particularly appreciate the natural site of the Grands Roseaux where mallards, swans and great crested grebes nest. It can be discovered by taking the Chemin des Marais, a greenway dotted with observation points.

Three of these beaches are chargeable (Le Pin, Paladru and Montferrat beaches) while the fourth, Charavines beach, is free. As the lake is shallow (36 metres), it heats up well during the summer and its temperature can reach 25°. Swimming is not the only activity offered by Lake Paladru. You can fish or sail on the lake. It is because we love traditional camping that we thought of this site. Because we sometimes regret that the rental accommodations now occupy so much space on campsites, we wanted to highlight the sites where tents, caravans and motorhomes are still the majority. And to offer all those who share our love of the outdoor life, a site with travel ideas, technical advice and above all a choice of campsites where it is good to come and put up your caravan or tent.
