When airstream meets porsche

Concept de caravane Airstream - Porsche

Each is a legendary brand in its own category. A meeting between Airstream, the American caravan brand, and Porsche, the German sports car brand, was almost inevitable. So the manufacturer of riveted aluminium caravans approached the F.A Porsche studio, a design studio founded by Ferdinand Porsche in 1972, to think about the Airstream of the future.

“Our design team has wanted to partner with Airstream for a long time,” said Roland Heiler, Managing Director of Studio F. A. Porsche and Chief Design Officer of the Porsche Lifestyle Group. “More than 20 years ago, when my family lived in Southern California, we owned a 1964 Airstream Overlander. That’s when I first met Bob Wheeler, at a vintage caravan show in Newport Beach. For me, Airstream has always been an iconic brand that has thrived by evolving its products while remaining true to its design DNA – an approach very similar to the philosophy of Studio F. A. Porsche. So it’s not hard to imagine that we were more than excited when the idea of developing a new iteration of the Airstream caravans finally came to fruition.”

The result is a very attractive concept caravan. While it retains the identifiable style of the Airstreams, it is adapted to current trends with, in particular, a pop-up roof that reduces the size of the caravan when it is on the road or in a garage. This roof also helps to improve the caravan’s aerodynamics. If this caravan project sees the light of day, in addition to its aerodynamics, it should also be lighter than the usual Airstreams, thanks in particular to the use of materials such as carbon fiber. The aim is to make this caravan towable by the new generation of electric vehicles coming onto the market.

In terms of design, the caravan produced by Studio FA Porsche features sleek, rounded lines that are highly attractive.

For the moment, this caravan is just a project. However, we can only hope that it will soon make its way onto the production line. Because we really like its style. So, will there soon be an Airstream by Porsche on our campsites?

It is because we love traditional camping that we thought of this site. Because we sometimes regret that the rental accommodations now occupy so much space on campsites, we wanted to highlight the sites where tents, caravans and motorhomes are still the majority. And to offer all those who share our love of the outdoor life, a site with travel ideas, technical advice and above all a choice of campsites where it is good to come and put up your caravan or tent.
