Haute Savoie is full of treasures and places to visit. Here are just a few of the places we’ve selected for you.

-Camping L’Escale is nestled between two famous mountain passes: the Col de La Colombière and the Col des Aravis.

These legendary mountain passes, famous in the world of cycling and motorcycling, offer breathtaking views. After the Col de La Colombière, in the village of Le Reposoir, you’ll find a monastery surrounded by greenery. This peaceful and restful place offers a visit to the chapel, a short film about the daily life of the Carmelite nuns and a souvenir shop. You can also enjoy a picnic on their large lake. This is a visit to a place of prayer and a listed site.

-Not far from the L’Escale campsite, 6 km away, in the village of La Clusaz, you’ll find a fun and cultural area to visit: Le Hameau des Alpes. Traditional mountain activities will no longer hold any secrets for you! Here are three good reasons to visit! To find out all about Reblochon cheese and have fun at the same time, with a fun trail on our famous cheese, to learn all about winter sports and to take a walk along an educational trail.

-In the same village, you can stroll through the weekly market on Monday mornings, which is open all year round.

The resort is also home to a natural mountain-biking area called “Le Domaine”, set in the heart of the mountain forests. There are over 110km of signposted trails, including 18 tracks of varying levels, from discovery to enduro, and a Bike Park. All served by 3 ski lifts.

Summer tobogganing is a real thrill! In the heart of La Clusaz, thanks to the Patinoire gondola, come and enjoy some unforgettable moments! There are toboggan runs for beginners and experts alike. So don’t delay! Come and share a unique moment with the whole family, for young and old alike. Make yourself comfortable, with your hands on the brake, at your own pace and in complete safety. On your marks, get set, go… for 800 m of downhill!

-A few kilometres away, overlooking the turquoise waters of Lake Annecy, the Château de Menthon Saint Bernard opens its doors to you. Over the centuries, it has been adorned with a romantic subtlety, so much so that a certain Walt Disney, on holiday in the region, drew inspiration from it for the castle of Sleeping Beauty. Magnificently preserved centuries-old architecture and exceptional furnishings in the heart of an exceptional site.

Staying in Annecy? Take the time to enjoy the lake, along its beaches or on a cruise. If you fancy a stroll, take in the Place du Pâquier or the Jardins de l’Europe: the view of the mountains is breathtaking. If you’re feeling sporty, cycle around the lake along the cycle paths. Or enjoy an ice cream or crêpe in the old town, where you’ll find plenty of shopping opportunities! Children can play on the lawns while you take a photo on the Pont des Amours.

-Take advantage of your stay in the Annécien Basin to visit the Gorges du Fier: an enchanting place in the heart of nature. A visit for everyone, without danger or fatigue! And if you still have a little time left, we suggest you visit Le Château de Montrottier (which is located next to the Gorges du Fier). It’s a place where you can rediscover the tales of your childhood.

If the weather isn’t with you: stop off at La Forêt Enchantée: a covered, air-conditioned play area covering more than 1,200 m² for children aged 0 to 12.

-For those with a love of history, we recommend a trip up to the Plateau des Glières, a major site of the French Resistance. Situated at an altitude of 1,435 metres, the Plateau des Glières was chosen as a parachuting site by the Allies during the Second World War. From January to March 1944, 465 maquisards gathered there to receive weapons for the maquis in Haute Savoie.

-You can’t stay at Camping L’Escale in Le Grand Bornand without visiting Chamonix! Chamonix Mont-Blanc is one of the most unusual resorts in the French Alps, offering a multitude of outdoor sporting activities all year round in an exceptional setting. Chamonix lies at the foot of Europe’s highest peak, Mont Blanc (4,809 m), between Switzerland and Italy. The glacier and its massif attract visitors from all over the world, both for tourism (3rd most visited natural site in the world) and for mountaineering and mountain sports. Set off on an adventure aboard the Train du Montenvers to La Mer de Glace! A 20-minute journey on board the famous little red rack-and-pinion train to reach Europe’s most legendary ice giant: La Mer de Glace. As well as the breathtaking panorama, you can visit the Grotte de Glace and the Glaciorium.

-Are you ready for the big thrill? Take the Aiguille du Midi cable car up to an altitude of 3,842 metres. You’ll find a 360° view with panoramic terraces and Le Pas dans le Vide, a technological feat unique in the world, in this 5-sided glass “box”.

Camping L’Escale will offer you discounts on these activities.

-On your way back to L’Escale, stop off at the Les Houches Wildlife Park: Le Parc du Merlet. More than just a wildlife park, this is an exceptional site! 80 free-ranging mountain animals on a 20-hectare mountain pasture around an authentic hamlet facing the Mont Blanc massif.

For keen hikers, there’s a huge playground with 150 km of signposted trails. Mountain lakes, névés, passes and refuges will be your motivation to reach the summit!
The Compagnie des Guides et Accompagnateurs also offers year-round tours for groups and individuals.
You’ll also love contemplating nature: chamois, ibex, marmots and bearded vultures.
You’ll find itineraries from L’Escale or just a short drive away.
You can also visit a farm to find out how our local cheese, Reblochon, is made. You can also find it at our Wednesday market, along with Tomme de Savoie. You can also enjoy a snack at the Farm with the Blueberry Tart and the Savoy Biscuit, 15 km from the l’Escale campsite.
Fans of speed will opt for mountain biking on the 93 km of marked trails, while enjoying a fun and safe activity.
Perhaps you’d like to try your hand at paragliding, for which Le Grand Bornand is a leading centre.
Or try your hand at biathlon, even in summer, in the footsteps of Martin Fourcade.
Tyrolean traverse, monkey bridge, cable traverse… The Grand Bornand adventure park offers activities in the trees.
Looking for a break for yourself? Yoga, Feldenkrais, reflexology and taéîchi courses are available throughout the season.
Take to the skies effortlessly with the Rosay gondola and the Lachat chairlift to enjoy a hike or watch the paragliders take off.
Watch the latest films and cartoons at the cinema, just 50 metres from L’Escale campsite.
In the mood for creative pursuits? Sign up for the pottery and painting workshops, or the “petit tavaillonneur” workshop.
Discover the town’s heritage at the Maison du Patrimoine, a traditional house in Grand Bornand, restored and furnished to depict the life of the Bornand people around 1830.
Discover L’Art vache, a permanent and temporary exhibition of works on the theme of cows, in various locations around the resort. As you stroll through the village, you’ll come across chapels, crosses and oratories that bear witness to the importance of Christian life. Each building has its own unique works of art: statues, stained-glass windows, paintings and altarpieces.
The summer holidays are a unique opportunity to introduce children to the various aspects of farm work and care at La Ferme des Animaux, in the company of all the animals on the campsite, as well as introducing them to the harvesting and growing of vegetables and doing arts and crafts!
Last but not least, the Aravis Passion equestrian centre welcomes you to experience an intense moment of communion with horses and the mountains.
The Grand Bornand golf course is an ideal place to play, with its 9-hole course and 9-hole pitch-and-putt course on a 200-metre-long flat driving range; 5 km from L’escale.
Treat yourself to a moment of relaxation on the fitness trail! Located 100 metres from Camping L’Escale in Le Grand Bornand. This path runs alongside the river and is accessible to all, even pushchairs. It’s 1.5 km long and features a number of fitness trail apparatus for an easy, peaceful stroll.
