A look back at a spring weekend at a campsite in the Landes with a 15-year-old teenager.
For our family van weekend, we were looking for a campsite on a human scale. This isn’t always easy, as campsites in the Landes or the Basque Country are often large. So we chose a campsite just a few kilometers from the coast: Lou P’tit Poun, 8 km from Bayonne and 16 km from Biarritz. An ideal location for visiting the Basque Country! This family-run campsite offers many other advantages:
- Lou P’tit Poun is a campsite on a human scale with 168 places.
- It offers 142 camping pitches with 168 places. It’s the ideal campsite for a van holiday.
- Lou P’tit Poun is a very quiet campsite
- It’s a very green campsite, full of flowers and trees. A real haven of nature where you can put your van down far from urban nuisance.
- The Lou P’tit Poun campsites are very spacious (almost 150 m²).
- Some campsites even have individual sanitary facilities.
During this long weekend in a van at the Lou P’tit Poun campsite, we all enjoyed living at our own pace. Our son had signed up for a surfing course. Every morning, after enjoying the pastries sold at the campsite, he headed off to the ocean for some surfing. Meanwhile, we took the opportunity to visit Bayonne one day and Biarritz the next.
There’s a bus stop in front of the Lou P’tit Poun campsite. Very convenient. We didn’t have to move our van during our weekend. To get to Bayonne, it only takes 15 minutes and takes all the hassle out of parking.
Bayonne is a superb city. We particularly liked the halles. There’s a wide selection of regional products: ham, peppers, wine, cheese, etc. We had to hold back to avoid buying everything! We had to hold back to avoid buying everything!
The next day was much the same as the first. Our son left for his surfing course while we went to Biarritz. We strolled along the seafront and into the port. We stopped to take a few photos of the Rocher de la Vierge and the Biarritz lighthouse. We hesitated to visit the Biarritz aquarium, which is said to be worth a visit, but the weather was so nice that we preferred to stay outside and enjoy the beach for the rest of the day.
Back at Lou P’tit Poun, we still took the time to take a dip in the beautiful indoor heated pool area, complete with whirlpool, before enjoying a family drink at the campsite bar, accompanied by a platter of local charcuterie and cheese. We had decided not to bother with cooking this weekend. So we enjoyed the campsite’s delicious (and very affordable) pizzas.
Before going to bed, our son still had some energy left, despite his surfing course, and he joined a group of children playing soccer on the campsite’s multi-sports field. Suffice to say, for his last night at the campsite, he slept very well!
