Family stay on the Île Chambod campsite with two children aged 6 and 12.
Ile Chambod is a campsite in a class of its own:
– it’s set on the banks of the Ain, in a peaceful, natural setting
– to preserve this calm atmosphere, the campsite doesn’t offer any entertainment for teenagers
– the campsite is located opposite Île Chambod, home to a leisure center on the Ain river just 200 meters from the campsite. Campsite guests have reduced access to activities at the water base: paddle, pedalos, supervised water games, etc.
– the campsite welcomes cyclists, with a secure room for parking bikes overnight, advice on cycling routes around the campsite and repair kits available at the campsite reception.
– the presence of Florian and Julie, the owners, helps to create a real family spirit at the campsite. Their eldest daughter, who also helps out on the campsite, reinforces this feeling.
During our stay at the Île Chambod campsite in the Ain region, we had a wonderful time as a family. However, if we had to pick just one, it would undoubtedly be our bike ride to Poncin.
Cycling to the market in Poncin
After discussing with Florian and Julie the best cycling routes for a ride with the kids, we opted for an easy ride to the village of Poncin, just 5 km from the campsite. After a quick check of our bikes at campsite reception, we set off for this small village in the Ain department. We set off early in the morning to take advantage of the cool temperatures.
The route was well suited to families: quiet and not too long, in the heart of the Ain valley. We made plenty of stops to admire the landscape, which alternated between river, cliffs and greenery. The Ain valley really is a little-known place that deserves to be discovered.
The market was held in Poncin. The stalls sold Comté, Ramequin du Bugey, artisan bread and raspberries, much to the delight of the children. Back at the campsite, we enjoyed a meal based on these regional specialities, before heading off to the leisure park opposite.
Île Chambod leisure park
This leisure center nestles on an island in the River Ain. You can swim there in complete safety. Our children made the most of it. We then rented a pedalo for a trip on the Ain. It was great fun for the whole family.
Back at the campsite, we enjoyed a family game of pétanque. The campsite has a pétanque court, ping-pong tables and a multi-sports field. For children, there are even manual activities such as mask-making once a week. As for visits, apart from Poncin, we recommend the Cerdon caves (12 km from the campsite), with their fun activities for children, and above all the places recommended to us by Florian and Julie in Merpuis: perfect for a picnic by the river.
