In the south of Brittany, opposite Vannes, lies the Gulf of Morbihan. A real inland sea linked to the ocean by a narrow inlet and dotted with islands and islets. In fact, in Breton, Mor Bihan means “the little sea”. Classified as a Regional Natural Park, the Gulf of Morbihan is without doubt one of the most beautiful bays in the world with its jagged shores dotted with pretty houses. The ideal destination for a holiday on a CAMPSITE IN BRITTANY.

OUR CAMPSITES AROUND THE GULF OF MORBIHAN

The Gulf of Morbihan extends over a little more than 40 km² between Vannes to the north and Arzon and Sarzeau to the south. Its chiselled granite shores form as many capes, points and outcrops from which you can enjoy panoramic views of the sumptuous landscapes of the gulf. To discover this enchanting spectacle, a cameo of blues and greens changing with the light, a hundred kilometres of marked paths are as many threads to play the tightrope walker between sea and land. Dozens of hours of iodised walks are in prospect. For cycling enthusiasts, a cycle route links Vannes and Arzon. Eventually, this will be connected to the cycle route that will lead from Roscoff to Nantes. For water sports enthusiasts, the Gulf of Morbihan has a lot to offer. Sailing, kite-surfing, scuba diving, sea fishing, kayaking, etc. The list is long. No chance of getting bored during your camping holiday in the Gulf of Morbihan.

Boat tours also take you to the Gulf of Morbihan. This is undoubtedly the best way to appreciate all its charms. There are day and half-day cruises.

Discover the islands and islets from your campsite in the Gulf of Morbihan

One of the specificities of the Gulf of Morbihan is the numerous islands and islets that make up its landscape. Take advantage of your stay on the campsites of the Gulf of Morbihan to discover them. Legend has it that these are the tears of fairies driven out of Broceliande. There are more than 30 of them. If the majority of these islands are private and cannot be visited, some of them welcome you for beautiful walks. The islands of Sept Îles and Berder are accessible on foot at low tide. The tour of each of them takes about an hour. Several of the islands in the Gulf of Morbihan are inhabited. The Ile aux Moines is only 5 minutes away from the Port-Blanc pier (Baden). It is the largest of the islands in the gulf but also a real natural paradise. The scents of the sea mingle with the essences of camellias, fig trees, mimosas and fuchsias. With its 7 km length and 3 km width, it is ideal for cycling or walking. There are no less than 14 hiking trails. During your walks, you can see many migratory birds nesting on the island. Off the coast of Vannes, the island of Arz is in fact an archipelago made up of 8 islands. The largest one, crossed by coastal paths, is also worth a visit. It is accessible from Vannes and Séné. The crossing takes about 20 minutes.

The heritage of the Gulf of Morbihan

If the Gulf of Morbihan seduces above all by its natural beauty, one should not forget to visit the charming towns and villages that dot its shores. Vannes in particular is worth a visit. This city built in an amphitheatre at the bottom of the gulf has a beautiful old medieval town built around the cathedral of Saint-Pierre. It is surrounded by ramparts. You will be able to admire very beautiful coloured half-timbered houses and elegant private mansions.  In addition to Vannes, Auray is one of the towns to visit in the gulf. The port of Saint-Goustan has a real cachet with its old buildings and restaurant terraces. It has preserved its authenticity and its medieval architecture. It is very pleasant to walk around, but you can also admire it from the heights.

Gulf Week

Every odd year, more than a thousand traditional and classic boats from all over Europe meet for the Semaine du Golfe. A beautiful spectacle not to be missed during your camping holiday in the Gulf of Morbihan. As the tides change, elegant riggings and other boats call in at around fifteen ports where festivals, exhibitions, entertainment for children, etc. are organised. Don’t forget to book your stay at a campsite in the Gulf of Morbihan so that you don’t miss out on the event.

BRITTANY comes naturally with wild coastlines of beauty. Its coastline offers a rare variety of landscapes where rocky chaos, long sandy beaches, vertiginous cliffs or abers. The Granite Rose coast, the steep rocks that defy the ocean in the Finistère or the peaceful beauty of the Gulf of Morbihan leave no one unmoved. You can go back a hundred times, it’s always a new delight. As for the city, Brittany is a visit in the Middle Ages with cities whose stone tells us the history of this territory that has preserved its authentic character. SAINT-MALO, QUIMPER, RENNES or VANNES are all invitations for a trip through time during your camping holiday in Brittany.

Campsites in Brittany between Rennes and Saint-Malo

Like the rest of Brittany, Ille-et-Vilaine has a sumptuous coastline consisting of the Emerald Coast which stretches from Cancale to Cap Fréhel. It owes its nickname to the colour of its waters with their emerald reflections. However, as beautiful as this coastline is, Ille-et-Vilaine is also distinguished by an incredible heritage, of which Saint-Malo is the jewel. This fortified city is a tightrope walker between land and sea. From the Grand Bé, the island opposite Saint-Malo, which is accessible on foot at low tide, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the city. In addition to Saint-Malo, Ille-et-Vilaine is full of sites rich in history, such as the beautiful city of Rennes, the capital of Brittany, Fougère, a fortified town that houses nothing less than the largest medieval fortress in Europe, and the elegant seaside resort of Dinard with its Belle Epoque style. So many places to visit during your camping holiday in Brittany in Ille-et-Vilaine.

Camping in the Côtes d’Armor

The Côtes d’Armor is distinguished by some beautiful natural sites such as the Cap d’Erquy – Cap Fréhel. The latter is one of the most beautiful places in Brittany. At Cap Fréhel, the pink sandstone cliffs are 70 metres high. The GR34 links the Cap d’Erquy and the Cap Fréhel. A superb walk not to be missed during your camping holiday in Brittany in the Côtes d’Armor. Off the coast of the Côtes d’Armor, the island of Bréhat awaits you for a walk or bike ride. This island, which was the first natural site classified in France in 1907, is a small natural paradise where the agapanthus blooms. It can be reached by boat from Ploubazlanec. In the east of the Côtes d’Armor, the Pink Granite Coast offers the visitor rocks with pink hues and surprising shapes. A real open-air museum which can be discovered by walking along the customs path.

Campsites in Finistère, facing the ocean

At the tip of Brittany, Finistère faces the ocean. If one discovers cities with a Breton character such as Concarneau, Douarnenez or Quimper, the main asset of Finistère remains without any doubt its rocky and steep coasts which defy the waves of the Atlantic. The Pointe du Raz is without doubt the most emblematic site. More than anywhere else, Finistère deserves its name: the end of the land. Sculpted by the winds and the ocean, this gigantic 70-metre high rock juts out into the water like a gigantic stone ship. It is without doubt one of the most spectacular sites in Brittany. It alone justifies choosing Brittany and Finistère for your next camping holiday. But don’t forget the Crozon peninsula with its vast expanses of heathland or the bay of Morlaix with its many islands and islets.

Campsites in the Gulf of Morbihan

With Carnac and its alignments of menhirs, the charming port of Saint Goustan in Auray or the peninsula of Quiberon where the magnificent landscapes of the Côte Sauvage stretch out, the Morbihan is not lacking in interest, like the other departments of Brittany. However, it is the gulf that gives it its name that justifies a camping holiday in Morbihan. This inland sea of changing colours offers new landscapes at every moment of the day. A string of 42 islands has been scattered around. Some of them, such as Ile aux Moines and the wildest, Ile d’Arz, offer beautiful walks to holidaymakers.
