Between Lac de Léons and the Atlantic Ocean, the Huchet stream winds its way through wild vegetation. Discover it in a boat, sheltered by the canopy. An Amazonian adventure, just a stone’s throw from your campsite in the Landes.
The courant d’Huchet links the Atlantic Ocean to the Etang de Léon in the Landes region of France. It is the only river in the Gulf of Gascony whose mouth has not been stabilized by dyking. The area crossed by the Huchet current (618 hectares) has been classified as a nature reserve in order to preserve its flora and fauna.
The tradition of paddling upstream on flat-bottomed boats dates back to 1920. Even today, boats are still the best way to discover this unspoilt area. The boatmen will accompany you on your trip along the current, explaining the fauna, flora and history of the Huchet current nature reserve.
